Machine learning in vadose zone hydrology: A flashback

چکیده
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have been recently applied extensively in various disciplines of vadose zone hydrology. However, not much attention has paid to their database-dependent accuracy uncertainty, reproducibility, delivery, which undermines applications real-world problems. We discuss lessons from the past emphasize need for lack fundamental protocols (i.e., detailed clarification on data processing, ML models accessibility, a clear path reproducing results).

On the value of soil moisture measurements in vadose zone hydrology: A review
[1] We explore and review the value of soil moisture measurements in vadose zone hydrology with a focus on the field and catchment scales. This review is motivated by the increasing ability to measure soil moisture with unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution across scales. We highlight and review the state of the art in using soil moisture measurements for (1) estimation of soil hydrauli...
متن کاملRole of vadose-zone flow processes in regional-scale hydrology: review, opportunities and challenges
At the regional scale, vadose-zone processes are recognized for controlling both short-term dynamics in watershed hydrology and long-term water balances of hydrologic basins. In this paper we explore the various conceptual and mathematical models that have been proposed or could be considered to represent water fluxes in the vadose zone at the catchment, watershed or regional scale. Such models...

899 The Hanford Site is 1517 km2 (586 mi2) in size, located in a sparsely populated area in the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains, adjacent to the Columbia River in southeastern Washington State (Fig. 1). The Hanford Site was set aside in the early 1940s by the U.S. Government to perform a top-secret mission, the Manhattan Project, for production of plutonium for atomic weapons used to end W...
